What is this event?

The Wellness Walk is a family-friendly fun event to promote mental health awareness and to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.

When is the event?

The 2017 Wellness Walk is on Sunday 15 October 2017

What time does the Wellness Walk start?

Registration to pick up your bib is from 8:30am to 9:30am. The 5.9 km walk starts at 10:00am. The 2 km walk starts at 10:15am. There will be fun activities before the Walk.

Where does the Wellness Walk start and finish?

The Walk starts and finishes at Government House Sydney.

What is the total distance of the Walk?

There are two walks to choose from, a 5.9 km Walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and 2 km Mini Walk around the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Does the walk go over the arches of the Harbour Bridge?

No, the Walk is along a flat, pedestrian walkway with spectacular views - some stairs during the walk.

Is there disability access on the walk?

The 2 km mini walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens is suitable for wheelchair users.  There are no steps. 

Although there is a lift from Circular Quay up to Cahill Express (instead of using the Moore Steps) there are a number of steps coming down from the Harbour Bridge and again into Argyle Street - this means unfortunately the 5.9 km course is not suitable for wheelchair users.

How do I get to the start of the walk?

Public Transport – Ferries, Buses and Trains all stop at Circular Quay. Please visit www.transportnsw.info

Why participate in the walk?

This Walk is a special way of showing your support for individuals living with mental illness, and their families. It's also a great opportunity to raise funds for One Door Mental Health.

How long have you got to complete the Walk?

There's no time limit, this is a walk for pleasure!  You walk at your own pace - it's not timed.  It usually takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour, but you can take as long as you need.

Who can register to walk?

Anybody and everybody. Invite your family and friends and make a day of it.

How do I register?

  • In advance:  You can register online  Register
  • On-the-day: If you want to enter the walk on the day, entries are at the Government House registration booth. Please ensure that you arrive early and allow plenty of time to fill in the relevant registration form.

How much does it cost to register?

  • Individual  $30 per person
  • Concession*  $20 per person (*concession card holders and children)
  • Family  $80 per family (eg 2 adults & 2+ children)

How much is early bird registration?

  • Individual  $25 per person
  • Concession*  $20 per person (*concession card holders and children)
  • Family  $70 per family (eg 2 adults & 2+ children)

Is my registration fee tax deductable?

The registration fee is not tax deductable; however donations over $2 are tax deductable.

When does early bird registration finish?

Early Bird runs until 24 September 2017

What do I get when I register?

'I'm walking for' bib & pins along with a medallion when you walk through the finish line. PLUS a surprise gift we're sure you'll love!

Can I register as an 'individual' walker?

Yes! Individual walkers are welcome to register.  Register

Can I register a 'team' of walkers?

Yes! A team can have as many members as you like. Start by registering yourself as the team captain and establish the team page.  Then invite your team members to join by registering as individuals then selecting your team name.  Register

Can I bring my dog?

No. Unfortunately no dogs are permitted, not even if they are on a leash.

Are there any toilets?

Yes. There are public toilets at Circular Quay and onsite at Government House, Sydney.

How do I volunteer to help with the walk?

There are various volunteer roles available. Register your interest in volunteering 

Where will my donations go?

Your donations will contribute to keeping mental health services and programs operating. The organisations receiving the funds from the 2017 Wellness Walk are One Door Mental Health, Flourish Australia and Mental Health Carers NSW. Who will my fundraising money go to?

You can choose whether your fundraising money will go to One Door Mental Health or Flourish Australia or Mental Health Carers NSW. They will use your money to ensure that the services they provide get to the people who need them most.  In the new NDIS environment it is more important than ever that they have the funds to support those who do not have NDIS funding for their support needs. Can I become a sponsor of the event?

Yes, we have plenty of opportunities for organisations to sponsor the event. Go to our Sponsor page to find out more about sponsoring.

Will there be water stations along the walk?

You will be provided with a bottle of water at the event, but we encourage you to bring your own bottle of water to avoid dehydration.

Will there be direction marshals?

The course will be stationed with directions and marshals along the route.

Will there be entertainment at the Wellness Walk?

Absolutely. There will be fun activities at the start and end of the walk.

If it rains will the Wellness Walk be cancelled?

No! The walk will go on, rain or shine! Just bring your wet-weather gear and a smile!

Is there food available?

There will be a food van on the day. If you arrive early you can event grab some breakfast before the walk.

Is there a secure place to leave bags?

No - there will be no bag drop. You'll need to keep your belongings with you at all times.

Will there be first aid available?

St Johns Ambulance will be available.
